Sew Spoiled Rose Pin Tutorial!

I woke up Wednesday morning and realized that it was St. Patrick's Day and I had no GREEN! (Did I mention I am a music school teacher to over 1000 kids!) I looked through my wardrobe once more, nothing. Finally, I decided to make my own Green for the day!
1.) I took a scrap of Patty Young's Gothic Flower in leaf green approximately 18" long X 3" wide I folded it in half, right sides together and ironed. (Not really but you should if you have time:)
2.) Sew 1/4" seam allowance starting at the short end, pivot the needle to continue sewing the 18" long side and leave the last short side of the rectangle open so you can flip it right side out.
3.) Flip the fabric right side out and iron! (I did iron this time!)
4.) Sew a gather stitch down the 18" long side. This is the longest stitch on your machine! (My machine calls it my baste stitch but I use it most to gather.) Tug gently on the bobbin thread to gather the petals together.
5.) Take your hand sewing needle threaded with coordinating thread, turn the gathered strip of fabric around in circles and sew the back of the rose so that the layers stay together. Cut excess fabric off.
6.) Glue gun magic! Glue the raw edge of the rose (Where you cut off the excess.) and turn the short edge in, glue again and turn it in again. (Making a quick seam.) You could hand sew this too. Glue a 1.5" card stock circle onto the back of the rose and then glue your pin to the card stock. You are done!!!
I think I might make a few more of these for bags, sweaters, blouses, my jean jacket and more!
Happy sewing!

Sweet Coin Purse Tutorial for Teacher Gifts

This time of year is so special to me because I get to show my gratitude for all of the hard work that goes into teaching my daughters. I love to make handmade gifts and this year is no exception. Since money does not grow on trees around here, I looked at my stash (I keep my scraps in hat boxes ) and tried to see what I had a lot of; small zippers, trims, Peltex strips ( from making iPad cases ), fabric scraps and some hardware for key fobs. So I set to work.  Materials: Plastic multipurpose 5" Zipper  Fabric Scraps Lightweight interfacing 808 Pellon Trims (We clipped  key fobs  with 1.5" swivel hooks onto our coin purses . There are tons of tutorials on making key fobs .) Step 1: Print out the Coin Purse Template  PDF.  Cut 2 main fabric, cut 2 lining and 2 interfacing using the template.  Optional: Cut a 2"X2" square of your choice main fabric or lining. This strip of fabric is used to clip a key fob to your coin purse later. We used a 1.5
